A Mother’s Love is Forever

From the moment we find out a lady is pregnant, the first thing we tell her is CONGRATULATIONS! Well, ideally that’s the case, with exception, of course.

The word congratulations, according to the Merriam-Webster’s Learners Dictionary, is a message telling someone that you are happy because of his or her success or good luck. This means that being pregnant, and in relation, motherhood is a success; an achievement worth being congratulated for.

When a baby is born, even more congratulations are in order. You will not miss to see a couple of baby photos on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat as soon as two hours after a mother is graced with her baby; and what follows, naturally, is five times the number of likes and comments that the mother would get on a perfectly filtered selfie.

Mother’s Day is observed on the second Sunday in May, this year being May 8th. It is a time to honor mothers, single mothers, mothers to be, late mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers for their huge contribution to family and society.

A mother plays a very significant role in her child’s life.

After birth, an infant is uncertain about the world in which they live; it is a new and strange environment. To resolve these feelings of uncertainty, the infant looks towards their primary caregiver for stability and consistency of care-Mother.

If the care the infant receives is consistent, predictable and reliable, they will develop a sense of trust. This trust will be carried with them to other relationships throughout life, and they will be able to feel secure even when threatened.  On the other hand, if the care is inconsistent, the infant will carry the basic sense of mistrust with them to other relationships throughout their lives.  Mothers lay the foundation for all of our relationships in life and the bonds we make or break with our friends, family, lovers, teachers, colleagues and many more.

Mothers are special; from conception, to birth, throughout  childhood and into adulthood.- basically our entire lives; and that is one of the many reasons why every year, we go out of our way to make Mother’s day special for our mothers and mothers we know of; and obviously because a mother’s love is forever.
